• So, how did it go?

I thought you’d all be curious how the past week has gone since I issued myself a challenge regarding my two year old.  Well, you’ll be happy to know it’s been great!

First, I must confess.  I haven’t woken up 1 minute early (forget 10 minutes!) to pray or do anything!  But I have been making a huge effort to pray more throughout the day.  I pray blessings over my son when we’re cuddling.  I pray for patience when I’m frustrated.  I pray for more minutes and hours and years of laughter together when we’re playing.  I’ve been really trying hard to bathe our home in prayer throughout the day.

Second, I’ve been making every effort to stop whatever else I’m doing and PAY ATTENTION to JT.  Particularly when Kate’s asleep I’m trying to get down on the floor and participate in whatever he’s doing.  We play lot’s of  “mommy get you!”  (JT’s way of asking for me to chase him) and we’ve built more towers than I think I ever have in my whole life!  I’ve pushed him in the swing and raced him around the yard.  We’ve read books and played trains and sung songs and done all of those things toddlers love to do.  When Kate’s awake we all play together- JT loves it when I make Kate “talk” to him or lay her on top of him or let him play with her in her crib.

I’ve seen such an improvement in his attitude (and mine!) this week.  While I’ve always been pretty hands on in my parenting, I think he just needed more.  Maybe he’s finally started to feel the jealousy that comes with a new baby?  Maybe starting preschool and being away from me for a whole day was overwhelming.  Maybe I’d started spending too much time in the same room with him, but not really engaging with him!

In any case, I’m pleased to report that we’ve had a great week here at casa de Benschoter.  Hooray!

Now, if I could only get up 10 minutes earlier and get a quiet time in…
